If you want to live well, critical thinking is a necessity and it is a moral imperative for us to teach children how to think critically, as this is a primary means of successfully navigating the world. Those who cannot critically evaluate the truth of propositions are doomed to be taken advantage of by the worst elements of society.
We cannot leave this training to the schools, even the universities, because even good schools are becoming more like vocational schools than true creators of educated men and women. I know people with degrees from both mid-range and elite universities who can’t think their way out of a paper bag. Education is clearly the answer, but what kind of education will be both effective and practical to teach the masses remains to be seen.
I’ll develop this section over time, but for now, I just want to give examples of the credulity of most people and the foolishness lying in wait for those who can’t think for themselves.
