The United States House of Representatives has voted to defund NPR. Cutting public broadcasting hurts those who are most vulnerable while affecting only a tiny portion of the US Budget (less than $500 million). This is clearly not a budget-oriented bill but an attempt by the GOP and far-right to suppress dissenting voices.
I and millions like me were raised with public television and radio and owe our success in life partly to the education and values it imparted.
I am disgusted that our nation is largely in the hands of spiteful people who are intent on hurting the most vulnerable among us, taking more than their fill of our communal bounty while starving those who are already struggling.
