The whole idea of Thanksgiving is a lie based on a mythical recollection of a kinder and gentler past. In truth, the Wampanoag people helped the early European settlers learn to survive in the harsh environment of the new world and were repaid with treachery and genocide.
Holidays are good in general, times to slow down our incessant struggle to mold the world to our desired shape, relax with friends and family, and reflect on where we are, what we have, and what we should be working toward. To make these holidays most effective, they should be based on true events or natural cycles such as an equinox or solstice.
