I strongly disagree with the author of this piece. I don’t know what the author is trying to do here, but Petraeus and Broadwell are clearly not dumb people. Like many very smart people, they were unable to behave rationally when it comes to sex and other strong drives. This is the norm as far as I can tell.
Being brilliant as an analyst, scientist, doctor, or soldier often does not translate into the non-rational realm of basic human drives. Does anyone remember the female astronaut who drove across the country in a diaper to kill a woman competing with her for her love interest?
The classical Greeks knew to make exceptions for people driven by passion. Why are we behaving so ignorantly?
These people screwed up. They are paying a heavy price for it. Let them be.
