Lincoln on Slavery

LincolnOnSlavery

Lincoln made a huge impression on me when I was in college. He was certainly a complicated man, with many conflicting motives, but he did the more difficult but correct thing almost every time, surrounding himself with men who hated him but had what he needed, and refusing to compromise himself.

Lincoln puts almost every modern US politician to shame, and that’s shameful. We should be slowly improving in our humanity, or at least holding steady. The increasing scarcity of good men and women in politics should alarm us and move us to a national debate. Unfortunately, we’re expending all our energy attacking one another, ensuring that our politicians continue working for only the worst of us.
